ADA Turns 25: LifeWise Renovations Celebrates ‘Advancing Equal Access’

Twenty-five years ago, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed on July 26, 1990. This comprehensive piece of civil rights legislation was proof our nation was committed to eliminating discrimination against people with disabilities.

In 2009, the U.S. Census Bureau found that 19.5 million people (9.9 percent of the civilian non-institutionalized population, 16 to 64 years old) had a disability—a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, like loss of vision or hearing, cognitive difficulty and self-care or independent living concerns.

The impact of the ADA grows every year, as more efforts are made to help Americans seek equal opportunities, gain full participation and integration in society and strive for independent living or economic self-sufficiency.
LifeWise Renovations supports the ADA setting and enforcing standards for accessible design and barrier removal in both commercial and public spaces. We look forward to continuing to help drive the “inclusive” design initiative and assisting in making living environments accessible for all people no matter their age or ability level.
